Vision of Success
As a Scoutmaster of Troop 149 I have a vision for the young men under my guidance. My goal, along with the help of the Boy Scouts of America, is to build a troop of young boys who work together to become responsible citizens and to serve their community at large.
By teaching and reinforcing the scout values, boys can learn what is needed to be independent and self-reliant. As a Scoutmaster, I will have scouts plan, organize, and lead others in exciting activities. By using the Boy Scout theory of a “boy led” troop, boys can use their leadership and teamwork skills to help one another succeed. One of the most important skills we can teach our young men is stand strong on their own, to make their own way, and to help others in need. As you proceed through the scouting program, and advance through the scout ranks, you will learn other important life skills such as cooking, first aid, swimming, and outdoor survival. As you perfect these skills, you will then have the opportunity and ability to instruct others.
Just as adult scout leaders are your mentors, you too will become a mentor to younger scouts. You will feel a sense of accomplishment in instructing other boys. You will succeed by helping others succeed. These are the skills that you will carry on into your adult working life. Some of you may lead large companies or own your own business. Building leadership skills will be a life-long benefit to you and your family.
As you know, Troop 149 has been building the character of scouts in the Windsor area almost 60 years. My goal is to continue this tradition by living the scout oath and law with our young men. The spirit of scouting is alive and well in Troop 149, just as it was when I was in this troop. With your help, the troop will be successful, and the true vision of scouting will come shining through.
Yours in Scouting,
Kevin J. Walsh
